- ½ teaspoon salt
- About ¾ cup warm water
- 1 teaspoon cooking oil

- ½ cup finely grated carrot
- ½ cup finely chopped onion
- ½ cup finely chopped bell pepper
- 2 garlic cloves, finely minced
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil
For Serving
- Chili sauce
- Soy sauce
- Sweet chili sauce
- Fresh chopped cilantro
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Make the Dough
Add the flour and salt to a large mixing bowl.
Gradually add warm water while mixing until a dough begins to form. Add the oil and knead the dough for about 7–8 minutes, until it becomes smooth and soft.
The dough should not be extremely sticky. If it feels too dry, add a small amount of water. If it becomes too sticky, add a little flour.
Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for approximately 20 minutes.
2. Prepare the Filling
Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Cook briefly until fragrant.
Add the onion and bell pepper. Cook for a couple of minutes.
Add the shredded cabbage and grated carrot. Stir everything together and cook until the vegetables become slightly tender while still retaining some texture.
Add soy sauce, sesame oil, black pepper, and salt.
Mix well and cook for another minute.
Remove the filling from the heat and allow it to cool before assembling the momos.
3. Divide the Dough
Place the rested dough on a lightly floured surface.
Divide it into small, approximately equal pieces.
Roll each piece into a small ball.
Keep the dough pieces covered while working so they don’t dry out.
4. Roll the Wrappers
Take one dough ball and roll it into a thin circle.
Try to make the edges slightly thinner than the center. This makes the wrapper easier to fold while keeping the middle strong enough to hold the filling.
Repeat with the remaining dough.
5. Fill the Momos
Place approximately 1 tablespoon of cooled filling in the center of each wrapper.
Don’t add too much filling because the wrapper needs enough room to close properly.
6. Fold the Momos
Bring the edges of the wrapper together around the filling.
You can create simple pleats around the top or fold the wrapper into a half-moon shape.
Press the edges firmly to seal the momo.
Make sure there are no large openings where the filling could escape during steaming.
Repeat until all the wrappers and filling have been used.
7. Prepare the Steamer
Lightly grease the steamer tray with cooking oil so the momos don’t stick.
Arrange the momos in a single layer.
Leave a little space between them because the wrappers can expand slightly during cooking.
8. Steam the Momos
Bring water to a gentle boil in the steamer.
Place the tray inside and cover with a lid.
Steam the momos for approximately 10–15 minutes, or until the wrappers become cooked and slightly translucent.
Avoid opening the lid repeatedly because this allows steam to escape.
9. Serve
Carefully remove the cooked momos from the steamer.
Transfer them to a serving plate and garnish with fresh cilantro if desired.
Serve immediately with your favorite chili sauce or dipping sauce.
🌶️ Easy Dipping Sauce
For a quick dipping sauce, combine:
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon chili sauce
- 1 teaspoon sweet chili sauce
- A few drops of sesame oil
Mix everything together and serve alongside the warm momos.
💡 Helpful Tips
Keep the wrappers covered: Dough dries quickly, so cover unused wrappers and dough balls.
Don’t overfill: Too much filling can make the momos difficult to seal.
Cool the filling: Hot filling can make the dough soft and difficult to handle.
Don’t overcrowd the steamer: Leave space between the momos.
Serve immediately: Momos are especially delicious when they’re freshly steamed.
