Fresh Lemonade

A refreshing classic summer lemonade made with freshly squeezed lemons, cold water, and just the right amount of sweetness. It’s bright, tangy, and perfect for hot summer afternoons, picnics, BBQs, and family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 4 cups cold water
  • ½–¾ cup granulated sugar, depending on your preferred sweetness
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • Fresh mint leaves, for garnish
  • Extra lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

1. Make the Lemon Syrup

Add the sugar and 1 cup of water to a small saucepan. Warm over medium heat, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves. You don’t need to boil it.

Remove from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.

2. Juice the Lemons

Roll the lemons firmly on the countertop before cutting them. This helps release more juice.

Cut the lemons in half and squeeze them until you have about 1 cup of fresh lemon juice. Remove any seeds.

3. Mix the Lemonade

Pour the fresh lemon juice into a large pitcher. Add the cooled sugar syrup and the remaining 3 cups of cold water.

Stir everything together until well combined.

4. Taste and Adjust

Taste your lemonade. If it is too tart, add a little more sugar. If it is too sweet, add a little more lemon juice or cold water.

5. Chill and Serve

Add ice cubes and lemon slices to the pitcher. Garnish individual glasses with fresh mint and a lemon wedge.

Serve immediately while the lemonade is cold and refreshing.

Tips for the Best Lemonade

Use fresh lemons: Freshly squeezed lemon juice gives lemonade a much brighter flavor than bottled juice.

Adjust the sweetness: Start with less sugar and add more if needed. Lemons can vary in how sour they are.

Chill before serving: For the best flavor, refrigerate the lemonade for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Don’t add too much ice: Lots of ice can dilute the lemonade as it melts. If you’re serving it at a party, keep extra lemonade chilled separately.

Summer Serving Ideas

Serve Fresh Homemade Lemonade at a backyard BBQ, summer picnic, birthday party, or family dinner. For a beautiful presentation, use clear glasses with lemon slices and fresh mint leaves.

You can also make berry lemonade by adding mashed strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries to the pitcher.
